THE GOVERNMENT IS RUNNING A CO-DESIGN PROCESS TO DECIDE WHAT A VOICE TO PARLIAMENT WILL LOOK LIKE.
WE NEED YOUR HELP RIGHT NOW!
YOUR SUBMISSION WILL SHOW THAT A VOICE ENSHRINED IN THE CONSTITUTION IS...
A FAIR GO
A PRACTICAL CHANGE
SUPPORTED BY THE AUSTRALIAN PEOPLE
A UNIFYING OPPORTUNITY
From the Heart is guided by the Uluru Statement from the Heart which calls for a Voice enshrined in the Australian Constitution. This Co-Design Process is a significant opportunity to press our case for an enshrined Voice – we must act now!
We are calling on all who are inspired by the Uluru Statement to make a submission in support of our key positions below. Submissions must be made by 31 March 2021. Your submission will be most effective if you:
- Support our three key positions below
- Use your own words to make your submission – personalised submissions have much more impact than cutting and pasting our words
- In the spirit of co-design, try to make your points as constructively as possible – our goal is to achieve the best possible outcome through this process
- Focus on the Voice – we know there is significant support for other issues, however, at this point, we must focus our efforts on the Voice
Your submission does not have to be a long-winded document – it can be as short as three sentences. The most important thing is that your voice is heard!
WHY MUST A VOICE
BE ENSHRINED IN
A Voice to Parliament should be enshrined in the Australian Constitution because it is a fair and practical reform that will have a real impact on the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
The challenges facing many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are intergenerational. It is right that there is a Voice that can withstand the changes of short-term electoral cycles and changes in policy. Previous voices have been vulnerable to abolition by governments, but the challenges remain. Constitutional backing for a Voice gives it the certainty and continuity needed to make real, long-term change in communities.
Finally, a successful referendum to enshrine a Voice will be a historic and unifying moment for our nation.
Week of Action Resources
Get involved on social media during the Week of Action!
A Week of Action (WoA) will be held 25-31 January to coincide with the release of the government’s Voice Co-Design Report for public consultation on 9 January. The consultation process ends on 31 March 2021, with the final report to follow. It is not a long consultation window so there is a very specific and limited opportunity.
The WoA is a call to take a simple daily action over seven days to drive awareness and support for our submission and make our voices heard!
Use the toolkit below to participate in From the Heart’s #WoA activities and help spread the word about a Voice to Parliament.
We also have a digital canvas for people to easily sign. We know not everyone has the time to make a submission (they won’t need to be long-winded documents – they can be as little a few key points).
The digital canvas gives people the opportunity to ‘sign their support’ for the Uluru Statement, in a similar way to how the original Uluru Statement was signed. This is our way of showing high numbers of supporters. Ideally, we would like people to do both – sign the digital canvas and make a submission as the digital canvas is not connected to the government’s consultation process.
