TELL YOUR MP
YOU WANT A REFERENDUM ON A VOICE

Momentum is growing with Australians from all walks of life calling for a referendum to enshrine an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice to Parliament in the Constitution.

It is now the time for supporters to tell your federal MPs why a referendum on a Voice must be held in the next term of Parliament.

Use our guide below but it is most important that your letter comes from your own heart.

I support a constitutionally-enshrined Voice to Parliament and want my say in a referendum in the next term of parliament.

I do not support legislating for the Voice before a referendum is held. If a Voice is good enough to be legislated, it must be first good enough to win a referendum.

I support the development of an exposure draft bill that contains the details of the Voice from the Final Co-Design Report. The exposure draft bill will give the Australian public a comprehensive look and assurance about the details of the Voice before a referendum is held. Once a successful referendum is held, the draft bill will be passed to create the enabling legislation for a Voice.

In response to the government’s Interim Voice Co-Design Report, approximately 80% of submissions call for a Voice to be enshrined in the Constitution. It is time we listened to the people.

An Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice to Parliament enshrined in the Constitution is a practical reform that will have a real impact on families and communities.

Governments alone cannot meet the challenges facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people – they are the experts in their own communities and they must be directly informing policies and laws made about them.

Australians know a Voice to Parliament enshrined in the Constitution is a fair go and it is now time to make it happen.
